AAF Tuscaloosa Hosts Actor Thom Gossom for Two Events

AAF Tuscaloosa kicked off March with a very special guest: actor, writer, and consultant Thom Gossom. Mr. Gossom, who is the President of Best Gurl Entertainment, was the first African-American walk-on football player to graduate from Auburn University. He went on to be a regular cast member on the TV series “In the Heat of the Night” and has appeared in multiple movies including “Fight Club,” “Jeepers Creepers 2,” and “Miss Ever’s Boys.” He will also play a recurring character on the upcoming CW TV series, “Containment,” and has recently published a fictional work loosely based on his own experiences titled “A Slice of Life.”

Mr. Gossom, whose visit was orchestrated by AAF Tuscaloosa’s Diversity Committee, participated in two events with AAF Tuscaloosa in one day! On Wednesday, March 2, he started the day early with a 9:30 a.m. presentation to students at Stillman College, sharing his experiences as a minority leader in the advertising industry, including the time he spent working as a corporate executive with Bellsouth, where he wrote, produced, and acted in commercials and industrial videos. At 11:45 a.m., Mr. Gossom served as the featured speaker for AAF Tuscaloosa’s monthly luncheon meeting at the University Club. He discussed his experiences and insight into diversity in the advertising industry, discussing both the portrayals of diversity in advertising as well as his insights as to why the advertising industry itself lacks diversity and how advertising professionals can step out of their comfort zones to expand diversity in their work places. Both presentations were very well attended and received rave reviews from participants!
